Q: Let’s start off by you telling me a bit about yourself.

I am an attorney at Burns & Farrey, where I focus on insurance defense, including liability and coverage matters. I grew up in a family that values hard work, persistence, and integrity, which shaped how I approach both people and problems. In my work, I enjoy getting to the bottom of things: understanding how events unfold, why they matter, and how to resolve them fairly.

Q: Why did you decide to become an attorney?

I didn’t always know I’d become a lawyer. My mom first suggested it, seeing that I had a wide range of curiosities and a natural inclination to ask questions and think critically. Law turned out to be the one field that could satisfy my desire to understand how things work and challenge me how to think deeply about systems, interpretation, and human behavior. Over time, I realized that my strengths – advocacy, analysis, and communication aligned well with the profession, and I’ve grown into it with intention and purpose.

Q: What surprised you the most about being an attorney versus law school?

What surprised me most was how critical communication becomes in practice – not just what you say, but how you say it, and to whom. In law school, the emphasis is on exploring every theory, issue, and angle, often in exhaustive details. But in the real world, especially in litigation, you have to be much more strategic. Clients, opposing counsel, and even courts often don’t want or need every possible interpretation; they want clarity, relevance, and efficiency. Being able to distill complex issues into clear communication is a skill I’ve learned matters just as much as the analysis behind it.

Q: What is your favorite part of the job and working at Burns and Farrey?

The people. Everyone is incredibly approachable and genuinely willing to help – whether it’s answering questions, offering guidance, or sharing insights from their own experience. There’s a strong sense of mentorship and collaboration here, which makes it a great place to grow as an attorney. Across all our work, there’s a shared commitment to efficiency and delivering the strongest possible outcome for the client.

Q: Who inspires you?

I’m inspired by attorneys who lead with professionalism and integrity – especially those who know how to stay calm under pressure and never lose sight of the client’s bigger picture.

Q: What passions do you have outside of your career?

Outside of law, I enjoy running, and fitness in general, as well as exploring nature - anything that lets me reset and reflect. I think that making time to rest helps you return to legal work with clearer thinking and better focus.

Q: What advice would you give to new attorneys?

Be humble, be curious, and don’t underestimate the value of preparation. In insurance defense, knowing the file inside and out gives you a real edge. Also, take the time to build relationships – with colleagues, adjustors, and other attorneys. The practice of law is about people as much as it is about rules, and professionalism.
